I posted a few days ago about the box of sample products I received from
PowerBar. I wrote a
review of the PowerBar Gel Blasts for the Charity Mile blog on September 30th.
On Sunday, October 5th, I went for a fast 46 mile ride with my Team in Training cycle team. We were originally scheduled to do 82 miles, but it was raining all over south Florida. We had to change the route I had mapped out on Map My Ride. A few of the girls on the team wanted to try and get a longer ride in, but a few us opted to do a shorter FAST ride, rather than slug out the miles at a slower speed.
I am not a morning person, and don't always feel like eating breakfast. But I know if I have a really long or really intense bike ride planned for the morning, that I had better try and eat something. I tried a Tangy Tropical Fruit Smoothie PowerBar on the way to the ride start. I was pleasantly surprised that I actually liked it. I still find PowerBars to be a bit dense, but their chewy texture makes you take your time while eating them. Too many people scarf down their food too quickly and end up with the lead nugget in the stomach effect.

I have tried PowerBars in the past, and never really cared for them. But the Tangy Tropical PowerBar was pretty tasty. And my husband was trying to steal it from me. I let him try a couple of bites, he really liked it too. I should have brought him his own Tangy Tropical PowerBar, but he usually eats a bowl of oatmeal in the morning before we leave for a bike ride, so I didn't think he would need anything else for breakfast.
During the ride I consumed a few chocolate flavored PowerBar gel packs. I burned 2,500 calories during Sunday's ride, so I needed to eat quite a bit to keep my energy levels up and to keep from bonking. I'll be writing a detailed review of PowerBar gel in a future post.
In addition to the tangy tropical flavor, the Fruit Smoothie PowerBars are also available in creamy orange and berry blast flavors. Check out the
PowerBar website for further information on Fruit Smoothie PowerBars and the complete PowerBar line of products.
Take care,
