Florida Cyclocross Clinic

I sure wish I could go to this clinic. I've been sort of thinking about getting into cyclocross racing down here in south Florida, but don't really know how to get started. The clinic would be the perfect opportunity to learn the basics of participating in cyclocross events. We got cheap tickets to Surf City, NJ to visit my husbands family, so we will be out of state when the clinic takes place. Oh well, maybe next year.

Florida Women’s Cycling Network Presents Cyclocross Clinic for both Women and Men Saturday, November 22, 2008, 10:00-11:30 am Registration deadline: November 19! Tallahassee, Florida This clinic will provide women and men a chance to learn and practice skills prior to the first race of Florida cross series. Click here to go to race website for race details! This clinic will be held in conjunction with the first race of the 2008 Florida Cyclocross Series and will be instructed by Kristen Bowers (2008 Cyclo-Cross State Champion).  Clinic will provide separate instruction and on the bike practices for men and women. Clinic will include pre-ride of race course. Clinic Topics: • What is cyclocross? Race rules • Bike fit/ equipment pointers • Bike control: Braking and shifting • Merging with your bike: Dismounting & remounting • Hoofin’ it: Shouldering & run-ups • Should I ride or should I run? : Barriers, sand, mud, and curbs • Additional Resources Topic coverage time will be allotted based on participant interest and experience.  After warming up participants will have a chance to learn and practice the skills mentioned above. Separate skill instruction will be provided for women and men. Clinic includes guided practice during the pre-ride of the race course.  We’ll also cover pre-race warm-ups and drills. This clinic is aimed at women and men who may have experience in other cycling disciplines but are new to cyclocross or want to brush up on their ‘cross skills. Pre-clinic tips: Remove your bar ends if you’re going to be riding a mountain bike. Removing water bottle cages will make it easier to shoulder and carry the bike If you have the choice, wear mtb shoes or sneakers (not road shoes!) The cost of this clinic is $10.  Novice and B women who attend our clinic, can race for 10 dollars on Saturday. We need 10 participants (at least 5 women) to hold a class.
