I've been to Oleta River State Park, located in north Miami Beach, three times over the past few weeks. Oleta has an extensive network of mountain biking trails, kayak launch/rental area, walking/running trails, picnic pavilions, camping cabins for rent, and much more.
After purchasing my Felt Breed cyclocross bike, Oleta is the first place my husband and I went to test the bike out. And on January 4th, we went down to Oleta to be spectators at the Miami Cyclocross race.
One week, after paying the park entry fees, I asked the park ranger on duty if they had any flyers available listing upcoming events at the park. The ranger handed me a postcard which contained information on the Oleta Challenge Off Road Triathlon, which takes place on February 8. The off road triathlon includes a 1/4 mile swim, a 26.2 mile mountain bike ride and a 6.2 mile trail run. The running portion of the challenge will include single track, water crossings and ground rappelling.
Additional information on the Oleta Challenge Off Road Triathlon can be found on the Down 2 Earth website. Online registration, on the Active.com website, closes 2/07/09.
Take care,
