Bryan Merritt, Charlie Lockerson, Lynn Smythe, Rob Smythe at the March 8 15K time trial race
Sunday, March 8, marked the first 15K time trial race of the 2009 West Palm Beach Race Series. My husband Rob & I, along with our friends Charlie and Bryan, were out there representing our friend's On Your Mark cycle club. We didn't win any medals, but we looked cool in our team kits, and had a fun time.
I think I set a new anti-landspeed record yesterday. HA-HA!!! Lots of room for improvement, I don't think a time trial bike would have even helped, the 75+ year old dudes were going faster than me. Our friends on the tandem bike smoked my ass too. Do they give medals for SLOWEST girl - got to be good at something!
Everyone says I'm spending too much time running these day, and not enough time cycling - BLAH-BLAH-BLAH!
ABOVE: Bike Diva's Trophy
Rob & I both got nice trophy's on Sunday for placing in the 2008 series. I also got a nice check $$$ - WOOT! I got two 5th, a 4th and one 3rd place medals in my age group during the 2008 race series. Good enough for 2nd in my age group and 3rd overall - WOOT! I'm not fast, just persistent, basically, show up for enough races and win a trophy - WOO-HOO!
2009 Race Series Details
The 15K time trial races take place once a month through November. Registration starts at 6:45 AM, first racer off by 7:30. One minute intervals between racers, no drafting allowed. Visit the website for details on how to get there. 15K = around 9.3 miles. $15 entry fee, must show USAC license, or purchase 1 day license for $10. Medals 5 deep for 10 year age groups, a few $$ for top 3 in each age group.
Last year they also had trophy's for top male/female, didn't see any on Sunday - maybe by April's race? Fasted guy finished in 20 minutes, fastest girl in 23. Don't ask my time, I was apparently stuck in a time warp on planet
GO SLOW
Here is the link to the West Palm Beach Race Series. The site hasn't been updated for 2009. At Sunday's time trial, race director Mike Purdy said he'd be posting up the schedule in the next week or two.
Take care,
