Hello everyone,
Saturday was a bit traumatic for bike riding. My husband and I did a 40 mile training ride with the Palm Beach cycle team. We road from the Boynton Beach Inlet, in Palm Beach County, and traveled south to the Hillsboro Inlet, in Broward County, and back. It was a great ride, although very WINDY at times.
We saw the South Florida TNT cycle team training along A1A on Saturday. They are based out of Hollywood, FL - GO TEAM!
We heard of 4 accidents involving cyclists on Saturday:
- 1 of the South Florida Team in Training cyclists fell down during their training ride. He was okay.
- Another group had 1 cyclist hit the back wheel of the cyclist in front of him. He was okay too.
- 2 cyclists, who are members of the zMotion cycle team crashed along A1A Saturday and had to go to the hospital. They had x-rays taken, but are okay.
- The 4th accident occurred in Weston. 3 cyclist's were struck by a car. Unfortunately one of them died after being transported to the hospital. The complete story of that tragedy can be read on the Miami Herald website; Cyclist's Struck by Car in Weston.
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE be careful when you're riding your bike. There are a lot of driver's out there, that can be a bit aggressive towards cyclists. The Miami Herald story, doesn't really give out a lot of details. Florida is one of the states where motorists are required by law to give 3 feet clearance to cyclists when passing them, even if this means they have to cross the yellow line in the middle of the road.
Take care,
Lynn Smythe AKA the Bike Diva
