I just set up my website for El Tour de Tucson. This will my 5th century ride with the Palm Beach Florida Team in Training chapter. My husband, Rob, is coaching the team! We are looking forward to a FUN season of training and meeting new friends!
25th El Tour de Tucson
In 2007, Rob and I participated in the 25th El Tour de Tucson as team mentors. We really enjoyed the ride, which attracts over 9,000 cyclists, 5,000 of them opting for the full century bike ride. El Tour includes 2 dry riverbed crossings, where you must get off your bike and push and/or carry it though a sandy, rocky riverbed. At the end of the first riverbed crossing, there was a fully costumed Mariachi band playing for the cyclists as they exited back onto the paved road - pretty cool experience!

Interesting Fundraising Ideas
Each member of the Tucson century bike ride team, has pledged to raise a minimum of $3,500 to help fund research and programs for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Fundraising can always be a bit of a challenge, especially in these tough economic times, so I always try to come up with some fun ways to meet our fundraising goal. Here's some ideas I have for this season:
Coffee House Bash
A couple of years ago we held a Girl's Club Tea Party at our house for mom's, grandmothers and their daughters and grand daughters. It was a lot of fun, I had supplies on hand to make fancy tea party hats and served a lot of delicious food. A lot of our male friends felt a bit left out, so this year we are going to do a Coffee House Bash and invite everyone. I don't have an exact date planned yet, probably around the beginning of June. And I am already planning the menu - YUM!
Craft Fair Extravaganza
I am a jewelry artist, fused glass artists, fiber artists and altered art/scrapbooker. I used to own a bead store, teach craft and jewelry making classes and sold my finished jewelry and supplies at a variety of local craft shows. I'm going to turn the back room of our house into a mini craft fair, filled with the following items:
Beaded jewelry
Fused glass jewelry
Fused glass home accessories - plates, bowls, vases, mini sculptures
Craft and jewelry supplies - beads, jewelry findings, scrapbook papers, stickers, decorative brads, inks, rubber stamps, wax seals, sealing wax, blank journals, how-to craft books and much more.
Halloween Costume Birthday PartySaturday, October 23. Coach Rob's birthday is October 21. A couple of years ago, for his 50th birthday, I planned a Halloween costume birthday party for him. We decorate the entire house, inside and out, including a huge cemetery in the front yard. We ask for donations for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, in lieu of birthday presents.
Please consider making a donation to support our participation in Team In Training and help advance LLS's mission.
Take care,
Lynn Smythe AKA the Bike Diva
