2010 Robert Jolly Memorial Time Trial Series

 

Want to gauge how successful has your training been?  Are you faster than you were last year?  Trying to find a way to determine your lactate threshold or do you simply want to share some cycling related fun with people who have the same passion for cycling as you?

 

Come join us for the 2010 Robert Jolly Time Trial Series held in West Boca.

LOCATION: Riverside Drive (west of 441 between Glades Road and Palmetto Park Road)

TIME: 7:00am (first racer off); registration opens at 6:30am.

Dates: May 2, June 6, August 1, October 3, December 5

FREE for BRBC members.  Join the club and all races are free.     

 

Regular Sunday club ride will follow immediately after the race from Loggers' Run.

First Annual Tour de Broward Ride

ANF Group's Tour de Broward Raises Money for Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital

FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla., Feb. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- On Sunday, February 14, the first annual ANF Group's Tour de Broward presented by zMotion, raised $250,000 toward the building of Broward County's only free-standing children's hospital.

Hosted by Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital at Miramar Regional Park, Zimmerman Advertising's Team zMotion had 75 riders participate in the ride (50K or 100K), run (5K), walk (3K) and spin that boasted 2,500 total participants and 200 volunteers.

The funds raised for the building campaign will go towards a new facility that will include pediatric cancer treatment, open-heart surgery and end-stage renal disease. Reggae-fusion singer and rapper Sean Kingston was on hand at the event, having pledged to raise $1 million for the construction. All donations of $5.00 or more received a Sean Kingston "Building for Tomorrow" wristband.

"The first annual Tour de Broward was a fantastic event. Lots of people came out to support a good cause despite the frigid temperatures, including riders, runners, walkers, volunteers, vendors and performers - everybody was a real trooper," said Pat Patregnani, founder of Team zMotion and President of Zimmerman Advertising. 2010 Hospice Ride For Life

 

February 28, 2010 marks the date of the 4th annual Hospice Ride For Life. Visit the event website to register for any of the bike rides: www.hospicecareflorida.org/events-100k-bikerace.php.

8am Start- Benefit Road Ride 100k/50k
9am Start- Mountain Bike Race 100k
10am Start- Fun Benefit Ride 5k

Events will start at Markham Park with the Road Ride at 8 am, the Mountain Bike race at 9 am and the Benefit Ride at 10 am. Mountain Bike race teams may consist of solo riders, two, three or four person teams completing the 100K event. Observers and participants can enjoy subs donated by Firehouse accompanied by a silent auction as well as many other bike related vendors and educational booths.

Join HospiceCare of Southeast Florida for “Ride for Life” on Sunday, February 28. Riders may choose from the 5K road loop, the 50k/100k road ride or the more challenging 100K off-road course. Both courses will be set in the beautiful backdrop of Markham Park in Sunrise, Florida. The money raised directly benefits patients and families on the HospiceCare of Southeast Florida program.

2010 Florida Tour de Cure Bike Rides

From time to time, my husband and I participate in charity cycling events that benefit organizations such as the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Multiple Sclerosis Society and the Police Athletic League.

Tour de Cure rides, which take place throughout the United States, benefit the American Diabetes Association.The Pembroke Pines ride, which takes place on March 7, is the closest to where I live. The Pembroke Pines ride has 10, 35, 62 and 100 mile options.

Fundraising Details

Participants in the Tour de Cure are asked to raise a minimum of $150 for the American Diabetes Association. Participants can register online and are given a personal page on the ADA website, to help them reach their fundraising goals.

According to the ADA website: "All registered participants raising the minimum fund-raising amount for their event will receive a commemorative 2009 Tour de Cure T-shirt. Reach higher fund-raising levels and you'll earn your choice of thank you gifts!

Bike Diva is Riding 2010 MS150

Dear Friends and Family,

The National MS Society is kicking off the 2010 Zimmerman MS Bike Ride presented by Mack Cycle and Fitness. I am planning to be a part of that event and I am asking you to join me in the fight against MS by making a contribution to support my effort.

The National Multiple Sclerosis Society is dedicated to ending the devastating effects of MS. They simultaneously fund research for a cure while also helping people who currently live with MS lead more fulfilling lives. Last WPB Race Series Time Trial for 2009

 

Last 2009 Time Trial

Just FYI: The last 15k time trial bike race for the 2009 West Palm Beach Race Series takes place Sunday, November 22. Registration opens at 6:45 AM and closes at 7:25. First rider off at 7:31 AM.

Entry fee is $15 for the 15k time trial road bike race. Awards for overall male/female. Age group awards awarded 5 deep.

Racing the Cervelo

The Bike Diva, that's me, will be out there with her Cervelo P2C. That will be my very first time trial using my triathlon bike, I've always used my Trek Madone 6.5 road bike in the past. But now that I'm am a duathlete, I finally bit the bullet in October and purchased a tri bike - cool beans. Don't know if I'll be any faster racing on the triathlon bike, but I will certainly look like a real racer!

Time Trial Location

The race takes place at 20 mile bend in West Palm Beach. Take Southern Blvd. and go west, travel about 4 miles past Lion Country Safari, and take a left at the red light. Go across the erector set bridge, and turn left onto the first street, that parallels the canal, to park. Follow the other people there to the registration/ride start area.

The Palm Beaches Marathon Festival Bike Tour - a 26.2 mile ride along the beautiful marathon course!

Join us for six weeks of fun Team rides!  On event day, you will join the marathon team for a great event and even better tent party at the finish line!  This is a 26.2 mile tour event and can be done on a road bike, mountain bike or beach cruiser.  No racing? just good team fun! Get your friends involved too? it?s a perfect introduction to TNT for newcomers and a great way to raise money for a very worthy cause!

Sunday Time Trial

I know I've posted up this information before, but I just wanted to remind everyone of the 15K time trial taking place on Sunday. Here's the information from race director Mike Purdy:

Hello,

There is a 15k TT scheduled this Sunday September 13^th followed by Sunday, Sunday October 11^th and October 25^th.

All Time Trials are 15k in length. Registration opens at 6:45am and the 1^st rider starts at 7:31am.

 

For those of you who haven’t experienced a time trial, it is a great way to judge how your triathlon or cycling training is progressing. It is not a mass start event so you don’t have to worry about crashing due to someone else. It is a great bunch of cyclist that participate in the events. Some ride after the event and some run part of the course. It is an out and back course that is barely traveled. We start riders at 1 minute intervals. The fee is $15.00 to participate, for juniors under 18 it is only $5.00.

 

The Time Trial course is located at 20 mile bend. Approximately 3 miles west of Lion Country Safari turn left at the blinking light (SR880). Go over the steel bridge; make next left along the canal to park.

South Florida Criterium Training Camps

I've got some awesome news to report. My friends over at On Your Mark bike shop are involved in getting the criterium races started back up at JD Park. Here are the details:

Where:
Located at the Camp Murphy Circuit Course, inside beautiful Jonathan Dickinson State Park in Hobe Sound, Florida. Practice your crit skills in a low pressure environment on the most challenging road course in south Florida.

When:

• September 16
• September 30
• October 14
• October 28

Details:
Rides start promptly at 6:30 PM. Course is 50 minutes plus 3 laps.

Great Training Opportunity
I've been wanting to try riding a criterium. There are a number of crituerium races in the south Florida area. But criterium races, with their mass starts and crazy fast riding around a short course, seem a bit intimidating. The criterium training camp will be the perfect opportunity to see if I like crit racing, or if I'd rather stay home and watch it on TV.

My husband has been going on a lot of business trips to Texas during the last few months. I just checked his schedule for September, and he will be in town for the two September crit races. Although he usually goes on the Boca Urban Ride on Wednesday nights, and I usually do a BRICK (bike-run) workout on Wednesday nights, we are going to try to get to as many of the crit training camps as possible.
